LHAASO detects showers at 4410m above sea level. Multi parameters, such as energy, muon-content, Xmax, direction and arrival time, are well measured with full containing both longitudinally and laterally.
This enables separation of specific species of showers from others event by event.
For gamma rays, the all background CR events are thrown away by a factor of 10^5 thus yielding a nearly pure gamma ray samples above 100 TeV. LHAASO has been finding PeVatrons in the Milky Way
Among the discoveries, the 1st Black-Hole PeVatron catalog unveiled the new potential CR accelerator population CR super-PeVatron is found among the BH+jet systems.
For protons, a purity of ~90% is achieved. This unveils new features of the spectrum, i.e. hardeningand knee features rather than a simple “knee” structure. Three components in the wideband proton spectrum indicate different source population groups. The helium spectrum will be available soon.
In future, the improved spatial resolution will bring much deeper investigations for some very interesting extended Super-PeVatrons.
