Image Processing applied to remote sensing

  • Lecture Class: 10h - Tutorial Class: 10h
  • Description:

Basics of optical multi-spectral image processing. Image formation of multispectral images, principles of supervised and unsupervised classification for land cover mapping, principal component analysis.

Basics of radar image processing. Principles of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging and its applications in land surface (mapping land cover) will be shown. Beside the theory lectures on SAR image formation, elements of SAR image interpretation, and SAR Speckle filtering, the practical tutorial will be carried out by using Matlab/Octave to process SAR images to help students better understand the theory, with examples on water bodies and forest identification.
